The papers presented at the conference and a few others that were solicited especially for this volume contain original research on individual and interactive decision behavior in various branches of business research including, but not limited to, economics, marketing, management, finance, and accounting. The Craft of Information Visualization by Benjamin B. Bederson,
The Craft of Information Visualization by Benjamin B. Bederson,
Information visualization is a rapidly growing field that has emerged from research in human-computer interaction, computer science, graphics, visual design, psychology, and business methods. It is becoming an increasingly critical component in scientific research, digital libraries, data mining, financial analysis, market studies, manufacturing production control, and drug discovery. The Craft of Information Visualization: Readings and Reflections traces the evolution of ideas and innovations within a leading research lab. It collects for the first time 38 of the key papers from the University of Maryland s Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL), a respected community that has shared many scientific and commercial successes. Each chapter contains an introduction written by the current director and the founding director of HCIL, describing the connections between these seminal papers and tracing their innovative histories. *Presents key ideas, novel interfaces, and major applications of information visualization tools, embedded in inspirational prototypes. *Techniques can be widely applied in scientific research, digital libraries, data mining, financial data analysis, business market studies, manufacturing production control, drug discovery, and genomic studies. *Provides an "insider" view to the scientific process and evolution of innovation, as told by the researchers themselves.

Quantitative marketing research - Quantitative marketing research is the application of quantitative research techniques to the field of marketing. It has roots in both the positivist view of the world, and the modern marketing viewpoint that marketing is an interactive process in which both the buyer and seller reach a satisfying agreement on the "four P's" of marketing: Product, Price Place (location) and Promotion.

Qualitative marketing research - Qualitative research is a set of research techniques, used in marketing and the social sciences, in which data are obtained from a relatively small group of respondents and not analyzed with statistical techniques. This differentiates it from quantitative research in which a large group of respondents provides data that is statistically analyzed.

Marketing research - Research is the search for and retrieval of existing, discovery or creation of new information or knowledge for a specific purpose. Research has many categories, from medical research to literary research.

Léger Marketing - Léger Marketing claims to be the largest independent research firm in Canada and is a member of Gallup International Association. Since 1986 Léger Marketing, a polling and market research enterprise, provides access to the Canadian and American markets.
